The Elkhorn Area High School boys golf team posted its highest Southern Lakes Conference Major score in several years April 19 at Ives Grove Golf Links in Sturtevant.

On Monday, Elkhorn scored a 379, good for 10th at the Geneva National Invite in Lake Geneva.

Nick Keller and Kyle Schoenberg carded 92s for the Elks, and Nolan Shirk added a 97.

The Elks played in the season’s second SLC Major Tuesday on their home course at Evergreen Country Club.

Elkhorn plays Saturday in an invitational at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville. Brighton Dale is Westosha Central’s home course.

Elks coach Steve Fisher said the conference adopted its major format three years ago in an effort to get golfers more rounds of 18 holes. Southern Lakes Conference schools played nine-hole dual meets against each other prior to playing in majors.

Elkhorn finished with a four-man team score of 385, good for sixth place and five strokes behind fifth-place Burlington (380). Badger finished first (321).

“I’m very pleased,” Elks coach Steve Fisher said. “Ives Grove is always a cold and windy adventure, no matter what the temperature is. I was very pleased with how the kids did.”

Ives Grove is Union Grove’s home course. Liam Ahler led the Elks with an 18-hole score of 93 and finished 23rd. Badger’s Connor Duggan shot a 77 and won individual medalist honors.

“Liam led us, which was really nice to see,” Steve Fisher said. “He got into a good rhythm. He only had maybe two bad holes.”

Freshmen Nick Keller and Nolan Shirk each tallied 97s and Kyle Schoenberg finished at 98. Dayne Fisher shot a 106.

In the remaining team standings, Union Grove finished second (334), Wilmot third (351) and Central fourth (366). Waterford finished seventh (400) and Delavan-Darien came in eighth (416).
