Baseball splits pair with Elks

Soccer wins two

The Badger High School baseball team split a pair of games with Elkhorn last week.

Badger beat Elkhorn at home 6-5 on April 12. Badger jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning only to give up five runs in the Elkhorn fourth. The fourth was the only inning the Elks could score in, and Badger was able to answer with three runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. Badger outhit Elkhorn 10-2.

Mason DuMez, Brady Fields and Austin Gallo all had two hits for Badger. Zach Ditzenberger had one hit and three RBIs. Fields had two RBIs and got the win in relief of DuMez pitching four innings and giving up four hits and one run.

Badger lost at Elkhorn 11-1 on April 14. Elkhorn (1-1, 1-1 Southern Lakes Conference) took a 2-0 lead in the first. Badger answered with a single run in the second, but the Elks tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the inning to take command. While the Badgers were held scoreless over the next three innings, Elkhorn scored three in the fourth and three more in the fifth for the win. Badger was held to one hit by Fields.

Badger (2-2, 1-1 SLC) lost to Kenosha Indian Trail (3-0) at home 16-0 on April 15. Indian Trail won the game in the first inning plating nine runs. Indian Trail added two more in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth and outhit Badger 15-1. Trace LaDu had the lone Badger hit.

Badger soccer wins two

The Badger soccer team won two out of three games last week.

The Badgers defeated Beloit Memorial-Beloit Turner 3-1 at home on April 12. Brittany Gestrich put Badger up 1-0. Ally Bosetti tied it up for Knitro (1-2-1). Gestrich scored again with an assist by Tori Tiso to give the Badgers the lead, and Erin Utesch capped the scoring on an assist by Sarah Hamilton.

Badger lost to Marian Central Catholic on the road 2-0 on April 13. Erika Dacanay scored both goals unassisted for Catholic (4-2).

Badger defeated Kenosha Indian Trail (2-1-2) 2-0 on the road on Friday. Gestrich (assist by Nicole Ritzman) and Hamilton (assist by Utesch) scored the goals for Badger (2-1-1).

Softball gets rough start

The Badger softball team was swept by No. 1-ranked Westosha Central 3-0 and 12-2. The Badgers were outhit by the Falcons in Game One 24-2. Aylssa Hrncar got the win in three innings of work. Hrncar gave up both hits but also struck out nine. Cayleen Ryan and Julia Melson got Badger’s two hits.

Game Two went better for Badger as the Badgers managed four hits and two runs. Badger led 2-1 going into the bottom of the third, but the Falcons (5-1, 2-1 SLC) exploded for eight runs and never looked back. Ryan had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Leslie Zelinski and Madison Hunt had the other two Badger hits.

Westosha Central went on to lose at No. 4 Union Grove 6-1 on April 14.

Badger lost at Waterford 10-3 on April 14. The Wolverines (1-3) took command early with three runs in the first and four more in the second. Badger came back with two in the third and one in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough. Badger had a season-high eight hits, three of them by Ryan who also had two runs scored and an RBI. One of Ryan’s hits was a homerun. Hunt added two hits and an RBI.

Badger lost a non-conference matchup with Woodstock North at home on Saturday 15-0.
