Mother Nature interfered with most of the high school athletic events on the calendar last week during a week marred by rain, snow and unplayable field conditions.

The Lake Geneva Badger baseball team won its home opener against Delavan-Darien 3-2 on April 5. Brady Fields led the way going 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Mason DuMez also went 2 for 3 and scored a run.

Delavan-Darien put single runs on the board against Badger starter Angelo Camalieri in the first and second innings. Jacob Benzing had an RBI single in the first inning. Austin Gallo came on in relief in the third inning and pitched five scoreless innings for the win, allowing just two hits.

Noal Brouwer started for the Comets and held Badger in check until the fourth inning. Badger scored three times on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Fields and an RBI single by Brady Fields. The Comets failed to score again off of Gallo, sealing the win for Badger.

A re-match with Delavan-Darien in Delavan was postponed due to wintery conditions on April 7 as was a non-conference matchup with Jefferson on Friday. Badger was scheduled to host Elkhorn on Tuesday and travel to Elkhorn on Thursday. Badger hosts Kenosha Indian Trail on Friday. Next week Badger will play two against Union Grove, on the road on April 19 and at home on April 21.

Soccer settles for tie

Badger’s home game with Janesville Craig on April 7 was canceled as was an away game at Whitewater on Friday. Badger hosted Beloit Memorial on Tuesday, traveled to Marian Central on Wednesday, and will travel to Kenosha Indian Trial on Friday.
