SIGNE O. WEIR

DE 3'31'16 OBIT Weir      Signe O. Weir, of Williams Bay, passed away March 19, 2016, at The Atrium Care Center in Williams Bay.

Weir was born May 11, 1915, in Chicago, to Ole and Selma (Danielsen) Reinertsen.

After 100 years, she is now at home with her Lord Jesus Christ. Her life was one of dedication to sharing the gospel and to her family. Blessed with a fine voice, Signe and her sisters began singing in the Norwegian Department of the Salem Evangelical Free Church in Chicago, and this talent gave her the opportunity to travel and minister with well-known Christian musicians such as the Palermo brothers and Kurt Kaiser. In later years, her skill in the kitchen led her to begin catering for many organizations and events. Through this venture, she met the Rev. Billy Graham and his wife, Ruth, who later asked Signe to cater their daughter’s wedding rehearsal dinner.

Family was very important to Signe. She raised her two children, Sylvia and Alvin, with her husband, Andy Olsen, who passed away in 1956. In 1961, she married the Rev. Carl Weir with whom she worked in Christian ministries such as the Lydia Children’s Home, Camp Willabay and Timber-lee Christian Center. After Carl’s passing in 1972, Signe spent several years in Boca Raton, Fla., serving at Bible Town before returning to Williams Bay to spend her later years surrounded by friends and family.

Signe is survived by her son, Alvin (Lynda) Olsen; grandchildren, Kathy (Bob) Quackenbush, Andrew (Pamela) Tinder, Kari (Jim) Pheil, Erik (Kendra) Olsen, and Gunnar (Carmela) Olsen; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Erling (Lillian) Reinertsen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Andrew Olsen and Carl Weir; daughter, Sylvia Tinder; grandchildren, Greg Tinder and Cynthia Shultz; and sisters, Agnes Reinertsen and Eleanor (Leonard) Ogne.

Visitation will from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at Calvary Community Church, Highway 50 and Harris Road, Williams Bay.

Burial will be private at Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago.

Memorial contributions may be made in Signe’s name to Calvary Community Church, P.O. Box 1200, Williams Bay, WI 53191.
