The Elkhorn Area High School boys basketball team ended the regular season on a seven-game losing streak after losing 56-40 Feb. 25 at home to Union Grove in a Southern Lakes Conference game.

The Elks (6-16, 2-12 SLC) and Broncos (8-14, 3-11 SLC) played Tuesday at Elkhorn in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game.

Elkhorn is seeded eighth and the Broncos ninth in the sectional bracket. The winner plays No. 1 seeded-Westosha Central (15-7) Friday at Paddock Lake.

“We came out pretty flat and were never able to really get it going,” Elks coach Josh Skatrud said. “Our offense never really clicked the entire night.”

The Broncos outscored 32-15 in the first half. Elkhorn outscored Union Grove 25-24 in the second half.

Dayne Fisher led the Elks with 13 points. Ross Ingersoll added 10. Matt Nelson led the Broncos with a game-high 15 points.

We have the unique circumstance of playing them twice in a row,” Skirted said. “Hopefully we can bounce back for the tourney. It was nice to honor our seniors and give them a chance to all start.”

The Elks last advanced past the regional round of the postseason playoffs in 2009, and have won one postseason playoff game in the time since.
