A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 8 for an Elkhorn man charged with smoking marijuana with his stepdaughter, grabbing her buttocks and dragging her down the stairs.

The man, 32, was charged Jan. 13 in Walworth County Circuit Court with sexual assault of a child younger than 16 years old; physical abuse of a child, intentionally causing harm; contributing to the delinquency of a child; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is not named here to protect the identity of the victim.

According to the criminal complaint, the man smoked marijuana with his 14-year-old stepdaughter on multiple occasions at their Elkhorn home, asked her to show him her underwear on more than one occasion and grabbed her buttocks.

On Dec. 30, the girl said the man dragged her down the stairs by her feet after they argued, and her head bounced off the wall, according to the complaint. The girl said the man, who had lived with the family for two years, had been physical with her before, according to the complaint. The girl had bruises on her elbow, knee, thigh and hip from being dragged down the stairs, according to the complaint.
