Two 12-year veterans of the Town of Geneva Police Department shot and killed a man Jan. 8 after the 26-year-old allegedly charged at them with a knife.

Officers Eric Anderson, 41, and Jason Sweeney, 39, fired at Eric C. Olsen, 26, at about 5:10 p.m. Jan. 8 at Olsen’s home at W3836 Lincoln Drive in the Town of Geneva, according to a press release issued Jan. 11 by Police Chief Steven Hurley.

Town of Geneva police were called to the Lincoln Drive home Jan. 8 for a complaint of a man breaking a window with an ax. When police made contact with the man, later identified as Olsen, he charged at officers with a large knife, according to a press release from the department.

Anderson and Sweeney shot at Olsen, who died as a result of the gunshots, according to the release.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave per department procedure while the matter is investigated, Hurley said in the release.

Look to upcoming editions of local newspapers for updates on the ongoing investigation.
