The deadline for filing nomination papers for local municipalities for the Spring General Election was 5 p.m. Tuesday but in the East Troy Community School District, that deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8.

There are three seats on the School Board open for election in April. The seats held by board President Ted Zess, Vice-president Dawn Buchholtz and member Mike Zei.

Zess and Buchholtz filed nomination papers with the School District along with Anthony “Tony” LaShay and Sue Frohling.

Because Zei did not file nomination papers, or a declaration of non-candidacy, School District Administrative Assistant Terry Carstens said the deadline for people to submit nomination papers has been extended until 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, in the district office, 2043 Division St.

School Board terms are for three years. However, because of a mix up during the April 2015 election, two of the board seats are for the full three-year terms and one of the seats is for a two-year team, to fill out the remainder of the term Zei was appointed to earlier this year.

Village Board

There are three seats up for election on the East Troy Village Board. Village Board terms are for two years.

Village Administrator Eileen Suhm said Trustee Linda Kaplan has filed non-candidacy papers. Trustees Ann Zess and Fortune “Forty” Renucci have filed nomination papers for re-election.

Newcomers Sean McFeeley and Matt Johnson have also filed nomination papers for the Village Board seats.

Municipal Judge Michael Cotter has filed nomination papers for re-election in the Village of East Troy. Municipal judge terms are four years.

County Board

There are open seats on the Walworth County Board of Supervisors and Village Board President announced his candidacy in December for District 1, which serves the town and village of East Troy, the Town of Troy and part of the Village of Mukwonago. Also running for District 1 supervisor is Alex Alger, according to the Walworth County clerk’s office.

Previous Walworth County District 1 Supervisor Rick Stacey resigned from the board and submitted a notification of non-candidacy for the seat after he moved out of the district.

Stacey has filed candidacy papers for District 2 along with Joe Schaefer. District 2 serves the Town of Lafayette, Town of Lyons, Town of Spring Prairie, part of Town of Troy and parts of the City of Burlington.

The Town of East Troy and the Town of Troy do not have any municipal seats on the ballot in April.

The spring election will be April 5. Should a primary election be needed, it will be on Feb. 16.
