Students from Big Foot to compete for honors in Kentucky at national convention

Numerous Big Foot High School students involved with the school’s FFA chapter are being recognized this weekend as part of the 88th National FFA Convention and Expo in Lousiville, Ky.

According to a press release from Wisconsin FFA Foundation Executive Director Sara Schoenborn, Big Foot High School students are among the more than 60,000 FFA members, advisors and alumni nationwide expected to attend the four-day event in Kentucky.

“It’s such a life-changing opportunity for our local FFA members to attend this national celebration of FFA,” State FFA Advisor and Agriculture and Natural Resources Education Consultant Jeff Hicken said.

“This week is a time for students to grow, but also celebrate their outstanding achievements as Wisconsin FFA members.

“Many are competing for national awards, but those attending will receive an educational experience to remember. My hope is that our Foundation partners feel as proud of those representing Wisconsin agriculture as I do.”

As a whole, Big Foot High School is competing for a national three-star chapter award against schools such as Adams-Friendship, Stevens Point, Waupaca and nearby Badger High School.

On Friday, in the fifth session at noon, several Big Foot students will be in the spotlight in the national agriscience fair. Those students include:

  • Amelia Hayden, Division 2 Animal Systems;
  • Danielle Wrzesinski, Division 1 Environmental Services and natural Rescource Systems;
  • Melissa Konkel, Division 1 Food Products and Processing systems;
  • Miriam Smith and Katy Vacula, Division 4 Food Products and Processing Systems; and
  • Carlie O’Donnell, Division 2 Plant Systems.

Live coverage of this year’s event can be seen online at FFA.org/convention.
