Elkhorn’s girls swim team competed at Janesville Craig’s Cougar Relays October 13 where they finished third and seventh overall.

“We had some great times for the day,” said coach Jamie Richardson. “The girls have been working hard and they really showed that they are tough competitors. Our ‘B’ team did extremely well and was able to beat other ‘A’ teams at this meet. It was a good experience for them to swim at the varsity level.”

At the invite, the top three medaled and for the Lady Elks that meant six medals. The team’s first medal came in the opening race when the 200 medley relay team of Lilly Remington, Savanna Kreiser, Kady Ruemmele and Emily Ames finished second posting a great time.

Also earning a silver medal was the 300 breaststroke relay team of Amanda Robers, Rachel Anderson and Kreiser. The team’s final silver medal came from the 400 rocket relay team of Audrey Earle, Ashley Gjermo, Megan Leahy, Natalie Rinaldi, Emma Glogovsky, Lilly Remington, Emily Ames, and Anne Blackbourn.

“Megan dropped 1.48 seconds off her time while Natalie dropped 1.23 seconds,” said Richardson. “Lilly dropped .73 seconds, Emily .07 seconds, and Anne dropped .18 seconds.”

The team earned three bronze medals, beginning with the 500 crescendo relay team of Audrey Earle, Natalie Rinaldi, Linnea Baas and Anne Blackbourn.

“Natalie dropped .69 seconds off her time,” said Richardson. Also medaling was the 300 backstroke relay team of Lilly Remington, Megan Leahy and Kady Ruemmele with Leahy dropped 2.42 seconds off her time.

The team’s final medal came from the 400 freestyle relay team of Natalie Rinaldi, Linnea Baas, Emma Glogovsky, and Bethany Buikema with Glogovsky dropping .12 seconds off her time.

The team improved to 3-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference by edging Burlington at home Oct. 9, 89-81.

“It was an exciting meet to watch,” said Richardson. “We really were alive and had some great times in this meet. Our depth really came through tonight. We may not have won every race but the seconds, thirds and fourths all counted. This was truly a team effort.”

That depth came through in the 200 freestyle, where the Lady Elks went 2-3-4 with Anne Blackbourn, Linnea Baas and Bethany Buikema.

“Anne had a strong finish to her race,” said Richardson. “Linnea had nice long strokes the entire race and dropped .69 seconds off her time. Bethany really pushed herself and swam a great race.”

The team also had a strong showing in the 100 freestyle going 2-3-4 with Blackbourn, Emily Ames and Emma Glogovsky. “Emily looked strong the first 50 of her race and Emma’s finish helped rack up key points to help with the win for the night.”

Another strong showing came in the 50 freestyle, with Lilly Remington taking first and Grace Ames second. “Lilly had a great turn and got off the wall quickly to capture the win,” said Richardson. “This was a great one-two finish to earn some key points for the team.”

The 400 freestyle relay team of Emma Glogovsky, Bethany Buikema, Kady Ruemmele and Anne Blackbourn posted their best time of the season. “Bethany dropped 1.15 seconds off her time,” said Richardson.
