A different view of the city

Autistic artist’s ‘Whitewater Cityscapes’ on display at Studio 84

Nick Bursh is a 27-year-old autistic artist from Fontana who has been creating art since he was old enough to hold a pen. His exhibit “Whitewater Cityscapes” is on display at Studio 84 this month.

After graduating from high school in 2008 Bursh began attending Studio 84 and learning more about art. In 2013, he was introduced to another autistic artist who used a form of Augmentative Alternative Communication. This allowed Bursh to have real, direct communication of the first time in his life.

Since then, according to a press release about the exhibit, Bursh’s life has opened up and he has grown not only as a person but also as an artist.

“At Studio 84, staff see him exploring, improving, being more open to new ideas and learning with his art,” Deborah Blackwell, director of the studio said.

Bursh has most recently been working on a series of cityscapes of Whitewater. Blackwell said the pieces combine Bursh’s love of the cartoon format, his attention to detail and his innate sense of perspective and proportion.

“Nick’s cityscapes are one of a kind,” Blackwell said.

Studio 84 is located at 121 W. Center St. in Whitewater. For more information call (262) 473-9845, send an email to info@studio84inc.org or visit   www.studio84inc.org.
