The East Troy Community School District will have its annual meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, in the high school lecture hall, 3128 Graydon Ave.

District officials encourage all district residents to attend. The annual meeting is when the School Board sets the preliminary tax levy for the district and residents will have the opportunity to weigh in on that issue.

The meeting is also a time for residents to hear about what’s going on in the schools when district Administrator Christopher Hibner presents his “State of the District” address, which outlines the accomplishments, goals and challenges facing the district.

The School District’s 2015-16 budget was printed in the Sept. 16 edition of the East Troy Times. The budget is available online at the district’s website, www.easttroy.k12.wi.us, or hard copy at the district offices, 2043 Division St.

The $14.5 million proposed tax levy for this year is a decrease of 2.14 percent from last year, which translates into a 2.11 percent decrease in the tax rate. The proposed mill on $1,000 of property value for this year will be $10.20, a 22-cent decrease from last year.

“Right now I’m basing the mill rate on a zero percent property value change,” School District business manager Kathy Zwirgzdas said. “Those numbers usually come in mid-October, they’re supposed to be in early-October, but if I remember correctly from last year, they’ve been delayed a bit from the Department of Revenue.”

The School Board won’t finalize the tax levy until next month, because the district won’t have the state aid amount until then.

“Oct. 15 is when we get our state aid amount,” Zwirgzdas said. “It’s after that we can compute the final number. It’s the last piece of the puzzle. It will be at the Oct. 26 board meeting where we will be setting the final levy.”
