Artists wanted for Main St. Festival

Whitewater Main St. Festival is a celebration of the arts. Held in downtown Whitewater with streets closed off to traffic, this year’s event will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12. The Festival committee has announced several ways for artists to be involved.

First, the committee is looking for artists to display their work at booths. Booths are $35 for a 10 x 10 foot space with any medium accepted. Photographs of work are expected to maintain a good quality of art and crafts available for visitors and to eliminate too many booths of the same type of work.

Another way for artists to participate is for those who enjoy painting outside who are welcome to sign up to be a Plein Air Painter. The guidelines are easy: set up your work and paint away. Plein Air Painters are allowed to set up a small display of their work around the easel they’re working from and hand out contact information. This portion of the festival is free for the artist unless they will be selling their work too. If so, the cost will be the price of a booth.

Lastly, the committee is looking for artists (artist wannabes, kids, families and so on) to form teams of three people for the Paint your Art out Relay Race. Teams will collaborate on a painting under a time limit. Subject matter of the painting will be determined by “luck of the draw” with each team member drawing a paper from a container with an item, or emotion to be depicted. Entry for teams for this event is free and the finished work will be made available for the Festival’s raffle. Visitors will vote for their favorite for a People’s Choice Award. This is expected to be an exciting activity for painters and onlookers alike.

Studio 84 will be seeking entries for an exhibit during September as well. The art gallery will be open during the Festival, so there will be lots of visitors viewing the art. Studio 84’s exhibit is Weather or Not and will be artists’ interpretation of weather. The entry fee is $30 for a total of three entries. Details and entry forms are available at www.studio84inc.org.
