In their last tournament before they begin high school in the fall, the East Troy Ice girls basketball team certainly made their mark.

Playing at the Waukesha NAYS Tournament last weekend, East Troy ran the table for a perfect 5-0 record to bring home the title in their age bracket.

East Troy posted wins over Illinois White 45-27, Batavia Illinois Blue 49-7, Lake Country Hartland 38-14 and twice over Impact, 33-24 and 27-24.

The Ice trailed the Impact in the finale until the final two minutes, when Jenna Gulig made two free throws to cut the deficit to one, then put back a missed free throw to give East Troy the lead for good.

For the tournament, Mackenzie Lindow and Elizabeth Klein each had 37 points to lead the way, followed by Gulig with 28 and Emma Klein, Miriam Ward and Erin Rice with 21 each.

East Troy ended the season at 15-7 overall, including two first-place tournament finishes, two seconds, a third and a fifth.

In the past three years, the Ice was 44-27 in tournament play.

Team members were Belle Verbeten, Gulig, Rice, Emma Klein, Lindow, Morgan Leising, Ward, Elizabeth Klein and Kylie Moker. The Ice was coached by Dave Lindow, and he was assisted by Dave Moker and Bob Klein.

“(This was) one incredible group to coach,” Lindow said. “They are dedicated, and they work hard and play hard every day. They are unselfish and play as a team. I can’t wait to see how far we can get together in high school.

“I (also) want to thank the parents for all of the dedication and time they have put in for their daughters and the Ice program.”
