Two Elkhorn area high school students will join 250 other Wisconsin students for this year’s Business World programs June 28 through July 1 at Edgewood College in Madison.

Business World provides hands-on business experience for students and teaches them about the challenges facing business, a press release from the program said. The program is sponsored, developed, and delivered by the business community of Wisconsin, according to the press release, and since its inception, has educated nearly 14,000 high school students from across the state. Understanding what businesses go through and how they need to adapt to the changing landscape of the sector is incredibly important, especially as most have gone digital and will use such resources as gmb optimization to bring them more visibility online.

Elkhorn Area High School students Alexander Balestrieri and Cody Conrad will be representing Elkhorn at the program in Madison.

During the Business World first-year program, students will be divided into teams of 10-12, who function as an imaginary “company” for the program. With the task of turning their company into a financial success, they will create a unique product, develop marketing strategies, and design a commercial, according to the release. In addition, students interact with guest speakers, tour local companies, and compete in an online business simulation. This will open their minds up to what they may come across if they start up their own business, for instance, the use of digital marketing knowledge and understanding that in some cases the potential addition of reputation management companies may be needed, is an important part of this learning as they will come up against a lot of different ways businesses can work.

Business World also has an advanced program component, for students who successfully completed the first-year program to return for a more advanced session. The release said the advanced program students focus on the bigger picture of business including marketing and ethics, and they help mentor the first-year students.

Hands-on activities focus on career preparation and workplace skills for success, the release said. The programs also include workshops, interesting speakers, and tours, allowing the students to explore career and education options available in Wisconsin.

Business World is sponsored, developed, and produced by the WMC Foundation, the educational division of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. For more information, visit wibusinessworld.org.
