Police confirmed Thursday afternoon a man was shot at a residence behind Elkhorn’s Dollar Tree store on West Hidden Trail.

Capt. Jon Anzalone of the City of Elkhorn Police Department said it was reported to police sometime between 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. a male had been shot at a residence at 123 W. Hidden Trail. He said the victim, who was still speaking with first responders when removed from the scene, was transported to an unnamed hospital and his status at this point is unknown.

Anzalone said a male suspect was taken into custody and charges are pending at this time.

Police are releasing few details at this time and did not comment on whether the shooting was accidental or related to a dispute between the two men. However, Anzalone did say the incident was contained to the residence and there is no danger to the public in relation with this incident.

Anzalone said law enforcement and emergency personnel arriving on scene did a “good job” of assessing and handling the situation.

Anzalone said more details will be released once the City of Elkhorn Police Department has completed its investigation.
