Udder Century Invitational to roll through Sharon

Police urge motorists to proceed through area with caution

The 33rd annual Udder Century Invitational bicycle ride is set to roll through the Village of Sharon this Sunday, June 6.

The race is sponsored by the McHenry County Bicycle Club.

As a result of the ride coming through the area, Village of Sharon Police Chief Brad Buchholz took to Facebook this week, urging area motorists to proceed with caution this Sunday.

Buchholz said motorists should be aware of the increased amount of bicycle traffic in the area, particularly on Salt Box Road and Highway 67.

“This annual road event starts in Illinois and will pass through our village,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

“Good luck to each and everyone involved.”

The ride features flat to rolling routes of 32, 50, 62, 75 or 100 miles through the dairy lands of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

Rest stops are placed along the way to give bicyclists a chance to stop and rehydrate and grab a quick snack.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday at Donley’s Wild West Town, 8512 South Union Rd., Union, Ill., and all riders taking the 100 mile route must be on the road by 8 a.m. Additionally, all riders must be off the road by 5 p.m.
