Both games for the East Troy baseball game last week came down to a one-run difference.

And the Trojans were on both the winning and losing side of each.

East Troy opened the week with a 2-1 RVC loss May 21 at Whitewater, but bounced back with an 8-7 win May 23 over visiting Elkhorn.

With the split, the Trojans moved to 13-9 overall and 9-7 in the RVC. East Troy traveled to Southern Lakes Conference foe Westosha Central Wednesday in its regular-season finale.

The Elks scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead before the Trojans answered with three runs of their own in their last at bat to pull out the win.

Offensive leaders included Nick Ruffalo with two hits and two runs scored; Will Iloncaie with two hits and a run scored; Nick Bertschinger with two hits, a run scored and two RBI; Connor Mitchel with a hit and two RBI; and Jon Ciriacks with an RBI.

Bertschinger worked the first 5 2-3 innings, and allowed two runs and struck out four. Both runs were unearned.

Ruffalo pitched the final 1 1-3 innings, and allowed two earned runs and struck out two.

Iloncaie took the tough loss against Whitewater, as he allowed three walks and struck out eight in 6 2-3 innings. Whitewater scored both runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Leaders for the Trojans included Iloncaie with two hits; Evan Wick with a hit and an RBI; Bertschinger with a hit and a run scored; and Jason Dopke, Sam Goral and Jacob Schultz each with a hit.

Following Wednesday’s game at Westosha, the Trojans will open Division 2 regional play next Tuesday, June 2. Pairings for the post-season had yet to be decided this week.
