The East Troy Village Board approved May 18 the installation of restrooms at the Mitchell Park concession stand.

Department of Public Works Director Mike Miller recommended the work be done in a memo to the board, dated May 12.

“(The) bathroom and concession stand have been erected for some time now,” Miller stated in the memo. “These services should be completed so we can obtain full use out of the facility.”

In the memo, Miller pointed out the completion of the bathrooms would eliminate the need for portable toilets when the fields are being utilized and would increase the sanitary conditions when serving food.

The cost of the project is about $16,000. The 2015 budget had $10,000 in it for this project and Miller recommended to the board that the other $6,000 be taken out of the capitol improvements budget to meet the need.

“I say absolutely,” Trustee Ann Zess said at the May 18 meeting and was echoed by the other board members.

Village Board President Randy Timms voiced some concern about the locking and unlocking of the building and who would be in charge of that and Miller said it was yet to be determined, but he had talked with the baseball club and was looking at different systems for that.

Trustee Forty Renucci said he was in favor of there being an actual key to unlock the facility instead of a remote electronic system because that way someone could inspect the building each time it was closed after use and it would be easier to determine when and if any damage had occurred, so the proper parties could be held responsible.
