Relay For Life set for June 27

Register by May 29 to be guaranteed a t-shirt

The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams, individuals and survivors from businesses, schools, families, places of worship and more to participate in the Relay For Life of Whitewater event, which will be held from 3 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, June 27 at Whitewater High School.

Relay For Life teams commit to finishing the fight against cancer and raise funds to support the ACS’s lifesaving mission. Teams, individuals and survivors can sign up for the event at Relayforlife.org/whitewaterwi. Those who do so by May 29 will be guaranteed a t-shirt.

This year, the ACS is celebrating 30 years of Relay For Life events across the world. Participants will enjoy activities, picnic games, music and more along with traditional Relay For Life activities including the survivor and luminaria ceremonies.

“Relay For Life events are a great way to bring a community together to celebrate, remember and take action for those that have battled cancer,” Allison Klein, Community Manager at the American Cancer Society, said.

Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide in 2014. Last year, more than 100 people participated in Relay For Life of Whitewater and raised over $32,000 to support the Society’s mission to finish the fight against cancer once and for all.

About the ACS

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of nearly three million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society’s efforts have contributed to a 22 percent decline in cancer death rates in the U.S. during the past two decades, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to the progress it is estimated that nearly 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year.

As the nation’s largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, the ACS is finding cures and ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more.
