The Whitewater High School boys track team has been competing at a high level for most of the season. Their solid performances continued at Rock Valley Conference Championship meet with Whitewater winning three events and earning second place, just behind East Troy.

Keagen Stonewerth, who has been at or near the top of his events all season, did so again in the long jump, making him a back-to-back champion in the event. He was also a part of the 4×100 meter relay team, which took first place by a mere 20 meters. Juan Villegas, Connor Rupke and Mark Cuevas were the other three legs of the impressive performance.

Another relay, the 4×400 team, took left the other competitors in the dust as well with Ashton Caputo, Joe Bullis, Roland Luckett and Mark Cuevas all contributing to the win.

In other jump finishes, Cuevas and Rupke both made the finals in the long jump and finished 4th and 6th respectively. Stonewerth finished second in the pole vault. Xhonatan Shahollari finished second in the high jump and also took third in the triple jump. Logan Rasmussen took second in the triple jump, out-performing his teammate in a lifetime best for Rasmussen.

“The boys really performed well.  Each and every team member did their best to hold on to the title,” head coach John Houwers said. “They really made East Troy earn the victory. The meet was extremely exciting and was filled with great performances.”

Making history

On the girls side for Whitewater, the up and down season was capped off with a fourth place finish against some tough competition with East Troy coming out on top.

Kailey Reynolds began the day by setting school and conference records in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.35. Reynolds continued her strong day with a second in the long jump, third in the 200-meter dash and second again in the pole vault.

Sarah Ziolkowski also set a school record by running her 1600-meter race in 5:10.44 for first place.

Ali Ketterhagen finished second in the triple jump after taking the lead with a 33-7 first jump. It wasn’t until she was overtaken on a very late jump that she had to settle for the silver.

“The girls came ready to compete and laid it out there,” Houwers said. “They did their best and had a number of personal bests. East Troy, Jefferson, and McFarland proved to be too much, but the entire coaching staff was proud of the way they performed.”
