Memorial Day ceremonies planned for area

The Ingalls-Koeppen American Legion Post 102 and VFW Post 10669 have numerous Memorial Day ceremonies planned for the Geneva Lakes West area.

This year’s ceremonies are planned in remembrance of World War II Airman and prisoner of war Henry Abelmann of Fontana.

Memorial Day ceremonies at local cemeteries include Cobblestone Cemetery at 8 a.m., Brick Church Cemetery at 9 a.m. and Walworth Cemetery at 10 a.m.

The Walworth Memorial Day Parade will kick off at 9:45 a.m. and the Fontana Memorial Day Parade will kick off at 11 a.m., with the Fontana Memorial Day ceremony, held in Reid Park, following the 11 a.m. parade.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 will be selling poppies on Friday and Saturday with money raised going to hospitalized veterans. This year’s Poppy Princess is Liozzy Olson, the daughter of Legionnaire Tim Olson and Auxiliary member Jill Olson.
