It was another successful weekend for Elkhorn’s girls swim team as they won the Waunakee Warrior Sprinter Fall Festival Saturday.

“This was a total team effort,” said coach Jamie Richardson. “Our depth has always been our forte and it was every evident at this invite. Our ‘B’ team scored key points in the win for the day.

“We had several team members step up and swim some great races to help score those little points which makes a difference.”

Overall the Lady Elks brought home eight medals, including four from individuals. Kady Ruemmele brought home the gold in the 50 backstroke.

“Kady won this race on her finish,” said Richardson. “She really reached for the wall to capture the win.”

Ruemmele also medaled in the 100 backstroke with her third-place finish. Also medaling was Linnea Baas with her third-place finish in the 50 butterfly and Emily Ames with her third-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

Also bringing home the gold was the 300 freestyle relay team of Bethany Buikema, Ames, Emma Glogovsky and Anne Blackbourn.

“Emma dropped .36 seconds of her leg of the race,” said Richardson. “The team really looked strong. I’ve been impressed with how Bethany has really stepped up as a young sophomore swimmer to help the team out.”

The 200 medley relay team of Lilly Remington, Savanna Kreiser, Baas, and Ames earned a silver medal with Ames dropping .37 seconds in her leg. Also earning a silver medal was the 200 freestyle relay of Baas, Glogovsky, Remington and Blackbourn.

Elkhorn’s final medal was a bronze medal from the 400 freestyle relay team of Glogovsky, Ames, Ruemmele and Blackbourn.

The team added another conference win to their record over Platteville 95-75 Oc. 2.

“In our final four events, we really started to turn things around,” said Richardson. “We started off sluggish but really came through down the stretch to capture the win.”

The Lady Elks won seven of the 11 events, beginning with Ruemmele in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

“Kady had a strong finish to her freestyle race,” said Richardson. “In backstroke she had great walls and good dolphin kicks off of all of her walls.”

Also taking first were Blackbourn in the 100 freestyle and Baas in the 500 freestyle.

“Anne has been working hard and did a great job finishing her race,” said Richardson. “Linnea had nice consistent splits the entire race.”

Elkhorn’s final individual winner was Savanna Kreiser in the 100 breaststroke. “Savanna shows so much drive and focus every time she steps up to the blocks,” said Richardson. “She puts it all out there when it comes to race time.”

The 200 freestyle relay team of Ames, Remington, Baas and Blackbourn also took top honors as did the 400 freestyle relay team of Ames, Glogovsky, Blackbourn and Ruemmele.
