The Elkhorn Area High School girls track team opened the season with a flourish March 20 at West Allis Central High School in the Jim Reinhard Dog Relays.

The Elks scored 96 points and won the meet for the third season in a row.

“It was a great first meet of the year for our kids,” coach Steve Simsonson said. “Really a high energy, focused effort by our boys and our girls.”

The Elks boys scored 40.5 points and finished sixth in the nine-team field.

“The girls did what we expected them to do by winning the meet by a 36-point margin over Divine Savior Holy Angels, and our boys’ team, which is extremely young, held up well to their first varsity-level completion,” Simonson said. “The coaches were really proud of all of the kids.”

DHSA finished second in the girls meet with 60 points. West Allis Nathan Hale finished third (58), Milwaukee Riverside fourth (56) and Wilmot fifth (50).
