HELEN L. HUGUNIN

PrimaryPhoto      Helen L. Hugunin, 88, of Janesville, died March 23, 2015, at Willowfield Nursing Home in Delavan.

She was born April 22, 1926, in Darien, the daughter of the late Henry Lader Sr. and Sophie (Sehmann) Lader. Helen graduated from Sharon High School in 1944 and served in the Cadet Nurse Corps until she graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1947. On Aug. 31, 1950, she married Herbert D. Hugunin in Milton, and they lived and farmed most of their lives south of Janesville. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1994.

Helen worked in the nursing field for over 54 years as a staff nurse, home care nurse, private duty nurse, and director of nursing at different agencies and facilities in Rock and Walworth counties. Over the years, she has worked at Mercy Hospital, Caravilla Nursing Home, Cedar Crest and Lakeland Hospital and retired from Premier Care in 2001. Helen was a very loving, caring, kind and supportive mother, who was very strong willed. She was very proud and supportive of her family, all of whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her three children, Fred Hugunin of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Ralph (Erika) Hugunin, of Delaware, Ohio, and Sue (Mike) McLean, of Janesville; grandchildren, whom she adored, Melissa (Karl) Mikkelson, Julie (Adam) Lock, Zachary McLean, Dayla McLean and Eden Hugunin; two great-grandchildren, Ashton Mikkelson and Meghan Lock; and her nieces, Donna Wohl and Ruth Kuen; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her mother, Sophie Lader-Sene; father, Henry Lader; brother and sister, Henry Lader and Elsie Lader; three half-brothers, Fred, William and baby Ralph Sene; and her half-sister, Frieda Watson.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the Whitcomb-Lynch Funeral Home in Janesville with the Rev. Brenda Barnes Jamieson officiating. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery next to her husband.
