Last Thurdsday night the Whippet wrestling team took on Evansville and had their hands full, falling to the No. 3 ranked team statewide in Division 2 wrestling, 50-22.

“Evansville is a solid team up and down their line up.” Whitewater head coach John Schimming in a statement following the match. “(Our) wrestlers held their ground overall and did not back down. Unfortunately the team was not able to win enough of the matches and ended up short.”

Winning for the Whippets was John Saylor, with an 11-3 major decision. Max Reid then won his bout with a pin. James Ehlen spent less than a half minute on the mat, pin-ning his opponent in 0:25 se-conds. Daniel Soto was the last Whitewater wrestler to pull out a victory on the night, winning on a late pin.

“Overall the coaching staff felt the wrestlers competed well and showed nice things. Unfortunately Evansville capitalized when we would make a mistake,” Schimming stated.
