In traveling to the South-west/Cuba City invite last Saturday, the Whitewater High School gymnastics team had a very successful day in which the team scored 119.6 points, which is the highest total in the past two seasons.

“Our team has really improved on bars and their progress showed at todays meet,” coach Nicole Myers said. “We added a lot of new skills on every event and had many individual season highs.”

The Whippets had a number of athletes place in the competition. Maritza Xochipa, Amanda Kraayvanger and Kelly O’Hara all took spots on the podium. Xochipa took third on the bars and Kraayvanger took fifth overall in the vault.

O’Hara had a career night on the floor with a 9.325, earning a fourth place finish, also placing fifth on the bars and fourth in the all-around.

“The girls are starting to come together as a team and motivate each other which is really awesome to see. It’s so nice to see them finally put everything together and get the scores I know they are capable of,” Galbrecht said. “They’ve been working really hard in the gym and this meet definitely showed that.”
