Man suspected of drunken driving in Six Corners crash

A 70-year-old Des Plaines, Ill., man was arrested Monday on suspicion of drunken driving after he reportedly caused a crash on Six Corners Road in the Town of Walworth that left two women hospitalized.

Bernard Benjamin is awaiting charges from the Walworth District Attorney’s Office for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and failing to yield right of way from stop sign.

According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, at approximately 8:38 p.m., Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a two-car crash at the intersection of Highway 14 and Six Corners Road in the Town of Walworth.

The preliminary investigation determined Benjamin, was driving a 2004 Lincoln Navigator northbound on Six Corners Road and allegedly failed to yield the right of way after stopping at the stop sign, striking a 1998 Dodge Dakota truck which was westbound on Highway 14.

Cristy L. Nuvy, 47, of Janesville, who was driving the truck, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with multiple injuries.

Benjamin’s wife, Joann Benjamin, 65, who was a passenger in the Navigator, was also injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

Benjamin was taken to Walworth County Jail where he was booked and released, according to police.
