Glorious music will fill the air on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. as the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Music Department presents the annual Gala Holiday Concert in Young Auditorium.

This holiday tradition will be filled with joyous sounds from nearly every ensemble, taking place throughout the facility in the lobby, terrace, and on stage. Small ensembles will play prior to the performance, during intermission and post concert.

Some of the music attendees will hear include: Jazz Ensemble I performing “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” arranged by Gordon Goodwin; Vocal Jazz will sing “That’s What I Want for Christmas” by E.E. Lawrence, arranged by Paul Langford and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Vince Guaraldi, arranged by Steve Zegree; the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will play “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson; and the Whitewater Symphony Orchestra will perform “Polonaise from Christmas Eve Suite” by Rimsky-Korsakov.

Also set to perform at the event: the Chamber Singers with arrangements of Christmas Carols by Stephen Paulus including “Angels and Shepherds;” the combined choirs and orchestra piece will be “Regina coeli” by W. A. Mozart – a celebration of the “Queen of Heaven” that quotes Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus on several occasions; and the Gospel Choir along with many small student ensembles throughout the facility.

A silent auction will take place in the Fern Young Terrace from 7 p.m. until the end of intermission and will feature a selection of hand-crafted items, gift certificates from area merchants, delectable treats, and artwork to bid on. The perfect holiday gift awaits a winning bid.

Tickets are $15 for general public, $10 for over the age of 65/under the age of 18 for advance purchase, with an additional $2 charge per ticket if purchased at the door. All ticket purchases include a $1.75/ticket Young Auditorium facility fee.
