Sheriff’s Department warns of imposters posing as deputies

timthumb     The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office has received several complaints that citizens are being contacted by individuals posing as deputy sheriffs with the “warrant division.”

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, the imposters are telling people that they have outstanding warrants and need to make immediate payments or face being put into jail.

No one from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department is trying to solicit money for outstanding cases, the release stated, and warned the calls were a scam to solicit cash and or personal information from the public.

The release reminded the public not to give out personal information over the phone to strangers.

The case remains under investigation. Any information on the person or persons involved in this scam are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (262) 723-2677 or the Walworth County Dispatch Center at (262) 741-4400.
