The Elkhorn Area High School girls swim team routed Delavan-Darien 135-35 in a Southern Lakes Conference swim meet Oct. 21 at Elkhorn.

The victory in the Elks’ final SLC dual meet of the year improved the team’s SLC dual meet record to 5-2.

“We swam really well,” Elks coach Jamie Richardson said. “We did some different things with our relays.”

Richardson said she switched-up the Elks relays so those who usually swim with each other swam against each other.

The Elks also posted 41 personal best times against the Comets.

“Sometimes when you’re going against an opponent that’s not as strong as you are it’s a tough thing to do because the interest isn’t there,” Richardson said.

In the absence of consistent competition – Elkhorn won every event in the varsity and junior varsity meets – Elkhorn made its own competition.

In the 400-meter varsity relay three of the Elks’ top swimmers – Megan Leahy, Rachel Anderson and Bethany Buikema – anchored three separate relays.

“It was a really fun one to watch,” Richardson said. “All four relays were pretty darned close at the end, where you have to push yourself at the end of a race.”

Josie Longhorn, Amanda Papenfus, Abby Ahl and Leahy won in 4 minutes, 13.79 seconds. Sarah Krupp, Audrey Earle, Sarah Broga and Anderson finished second (4:14.56) and Emily Kruse, Gabby Pinnow, Avonlea Odling and Bethany Buikema finished third (4:14.88).

Pinnow, Odling, Cailin Jacobs and Broga won the 200 medley relay (2:11.38).

Earle won the 200 freestyle (2:21.30) and 500 freestyle (6:20.60). Amanda Robers won the 200 individual medley (2:30.77) and 100 butterfly (1:06.86).

Leahy won the 50 freestyle (31.17) and Broga won the 100 freestyle (1:01.67). Anna Holte, Robers, Kruse and Buikema won the 200 freestyle relay (1:56.78).

Leahy won the 100 backstroke (1:08.82) and Anderson won the 100 breaststroke (1:15.21).

Up next for the Elks is the Southern Lakes Conference meet Saturday at Lake Geneva Badger.
