After winning the Southern Lakes Conference title, finishing the year 7-0, the Delavan-Darien High School boys soccer team opened up the SLC tournament with a win over Union Grove, but lost 1-0 on Oct. 7 to Elkhorn in the championship game.         The Elks scored 25-minutes into the game and the Comet offense, despite taking 15 shots on goal, just couldn’t find the back of the net and lost their only conference contest of the year.

With the loss, the Comets dropped to fourth in the state in the Division 3 Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association rankings.

“It was pretty much the same game as the first one,” D-DHS head coach Mike Marse said, referring to the game earlier in the year against the Elks the Comets won 5-0. “We just didn’t finish well.”

The Comets started Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Regional action on Tuesday, and Marse felt his Comets would be ready despite the loss to Elkhorn.

“The team will shake this off,” Marse said. “In the long run it will help us to not look past any team to the next game.”

The Comets hosted East Troy in the opening round of regionals and the winner of that game will play tonight against either Whitewater or St. Anthony. Place and time of that game is unknown as of press time but can be found at www.wiaawi.org.
